Random Stuff

Tons of things going on in town…. Christmas is coming, for one, so there’s lights, and a parade, and these carolers:

In town there is still standing an 1881 log cabin, built by the first Bishop for his third wife. And, by third wife, I don’t mean that he was a widower, or that he ever got divorced…..

Utah is the “Beehive State”. If you see blue lights, and this logo on the door of the car, the nicely dressed man inside might not be stopping you to check on your honey supplies:

Got a ride in today – still in the mid-50’s and sunny. Turn left immediately after the tree…. otherwise it’s Thelma and Louise time.

Day 18

Detail work…. concrete front porch and rear patio are poured separately from everything else. (So is the driveway, but that comes much later).

Front porch before, installing flashing, making forms, levelling dirt:

The insulation gets a protective coat of stucco where it is exposed too. Front porch after:

Winter

Thanksgiving week, so not much house progress. Went for a drive up in the mountains – still some snow, but most of it has melted (65 degrees in town, over 40 at 8,000 feet).

Deer_3

Lots of deer, probably avoiding hunters (this was in a National Forest, so hunting is tightly controlled).

Day 9

Pouring the floor…. labor intensive, but so much less work than putting in a basement. It was supposed to rain in the afternoon, so they started at 7 AM and were working quickly to get it in and level before then. (It ended up not raining – not more than about 10 drops – so no issues for the fresh concrete).

Who are all these guys, and why are they standing in my office?

Day 7

Only a week? Wow. Glad I’m not paying these guys overtime… oh wait a second, I probably am. Never mind.

Next step is everything that needs to go under the floor: water lines (supply line from street, which is blue, and running water around the house, which is white – both plastic) and sewer lines (black). Most electrical is in the walls; there are a few short lines to plugs in the floor but that’s it.

To get in/out of the house the lines just go underneath the new foundation:
