More snow

Not like Buffalo, but more snow up high. There is something really nice about watching a snowstorm while on your back deck in a t-shirt, because it’s 50 degrees out….

For about 2 minutes in the evening, there’s a wonderful view, when the sunlight is hitting the red rocks just before it sets, and the red contrasting with the white snow. Doesn’t quite come out in a picture.

Day 5

Concrete!

Day5_1

Note the difference in how the garage wall is done: forms both sides (since you can see both sides, and dimensions matter) and the house walls (insulated, form on one side only).

Day5_2

I didn’t measure but that’s about 2 foot deep. Since the ground never freezes there’s no need to go any deeper.

Day 4

Counting calendar days, not work days (although they work virtually every day, so no real difference).

Finishing up concrete forms and rebar:

Day4_1

The pink is (thick!) foam insulation. It serves as the outside form when pouring the concrete; then it stays there forever, insulating the home (where wood forms would need to be removed or they would rot).
