Moab does a nice Christmas thing every December – mainly for residents, since all the tourists have gone away by now. On Friday night, they have a tree lighting ceremony in a park a few blocks away. The high school band plays Christmas carols; they’re a high school band, so not perfect, although the teacher/conductor is extremely good.
On the Saturday, there’s a parade down Main Street. Local businesses, churches, the Forest service, the BLM and others decorate vehicles with lights; between the people lining the sidewalks and the people on floats, there’s got to be more than 50% of the population downtown.
Of course, since the USFS fire truck, the BLM fire truck, and every police car in the city and county are in the parade….. yeah, just hope nothing happens while they’re away.
